Telly Time

Saturday, February 13, 2010

Working on a television show with author and speaker Joni Eareckson Tada over the last few years has been an excellent experience.

The good people at Joni and Friends let us know this week that one of the episodes we produced for their series is up for a Telly Award.

We’ve brought several episodes from this series to our Franklin Springs community:  A Full House of Blessing, When Robin Prays, and The Terri Schiavo Story.

The episode currently up for the Telly Award is When Disability Hits Home.  It features Charles Colson and RC Sproul, two esteemed Christian leaders who reconcile their faith and theology with the challenging realities of having special needs grandchildren.

This episode was shot in Washington, DC., Orlando, Massachusetts, Los Angeles, and in Virginia, where we shared the inspiring story of RC Sproul, Jr. and his family, focusing on his wonderful daughter Shannon.

Our colleagues at Joni and Friends have asked us to spread the word that this year’s Telly Awards contains a fan voting component.  If you’d like to see a 3:00 clip from this episode, you may do so at the link below.  And you’ll also have the opportunity to cast an affirmative voice for the episode:

Thanks!

Two Thumbs Up

Wednesday, February 10, 2010

We had heard that Food, Inc. was a special film.  And when the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced their Oscar nominations the other day, we finally got around to watching this nomination in the Best Feature Documentary category.

The film is now making the rounds at Franklin Springs.  Beyond our interest in the captivating subject matter (our Inherit the Land, The Art of Gardening, and A Journey Home all address the growing interest in getting “back to the land”), the film is also a brilliant example of creativity brought to the documentary genre. The photography, editing, graphics, and music are all superb.  It’s a serious film - and it’s fun to watch.

One other bonus in Food, Inc.:  we were pleasantly surprised to discover that the film visits Polyface Farms and the thoughtfully effusive Joel Salatin.  The scenes at their farm in Virginia’s Shenandoah Valley are among the film’s best.

There may not be a lot of Oscar nominated fare that we’ll recommend here (although there was a lot to like about The Blindside).  But we think that many of you would very much enjoy Food, Inc.  We sure did.

Dearly Beloved…

Monday, February 8, 2010

Welcome to National Marriage Week.  We’re happy to know that people will be turning more attention this week to resources that strengthen marriages, such as films like “Fireproof” (an excellent story of marital redemption).

We’d like to share with you the films in our catalog that model marital life in an inspiring way.

First is the story of Tommy and Sherri Waller in A Journey Home.  While their path has been unconventional, their commitment to honor each other has been an encouragement to people around the world.

In A Full House of Blessing, Tom and Melanie Nicklas meet vast challenges that ultimately draw them closer together.  It’s a rich picture of a husband and wife loving and serving each other…

And in Pull Up A Chair, Nathan and Patsy Clark enjoy the adventure of marriage in a truly unique manner…

We’ve got A Journey Home, A Full House of Blessing, and Pull Up A Chair on sale throughout National Marriage Week.

They’re Looking Ahead

Thursday, February 4, 2010

We dispatched camera crews (okay, our iPhones) to the homes of four of our Franklin Springs team members this week.

Their mission:  to gauge potential interest in our forthcoming film on Family Business…

Insomuch as the film will be hosted by Harvard MBA Wade Myers, the nascent entrepreneurs pictured above may wrestle with the expert analysis and perspective brought by the insightful Mr. Myers.

But their day is coming…
